 MISCELLANEOUS CRAFTS

These are a few items that don't really fit an anywhere else.

Happy Hallowe'en

Halloween

I saved this pattern quite some time ago, and I was surprised I could find it when I went looking (not all my "saves" are where I think they should be). I added a few changes of my own and the finished product isn't very much like the original pattern.

The spider shape is done in embroidery, and the spider's head is made from links of an old bracelet of Mum's. The body of the spider has sequins sewn on for a bit of a shine. I added the names myself.

The piece originally was to fit into a photo frame, but since I've started quilting I now see everything as a possible quilting project. The pieces gave me another chance to try my hand at free motion quilting.

Elizabeth's 30th Birthday

This was years in the making but, now that I'm retired, I really made an effort to get it done for Elizabeth's birthday. Of course there were "issues" when I made it. I ran out of wool for the verse so had to start all over on that portion with embroidery thread (thanks for the suggestion Diane). Once it was finished framing was going to be a problem. We've not tried the framer in town, and he's never in his shop so we hadn't even talked to him. I needed to learn how to miter corners for a quilt project so I started small by self-binding the picture much like I would a quilt.

We have some grape vines in our yard and we are usually blessed with an abundant crop. I spend about a week each fall making jelly from the grapes. I'm then able to use them as gifts for family and friends.

Candle Holder

This really was one of my own creations. The shells were from a collection that my daughter brought home from a trip to Australia. Although it doesn't show up too well, the glass bowl is etched with a footprint. The poem "Footprints in the Sand" was always Kathryn's favorite.

Tea Advent Calendar

As a Christmas gift one year I made several Advent Calendars for the 12 Days of Christmas. The packages were filled with a variety of teas and hot chocolate mixes.

Advent - Diane

For many years my best friend and I traded this Advent Calendar back and forth. As it was difficult to get items small enough for the pockets (not to mention the expense involved) we decided to give it a rest for a bit. This year I returned it to Diane filled with business cards that were printed with a variety of wise (and not so wise) quotations.
