 KNITTING

For me, knitting is the most relaxing of my crafts.

Afghan

Afghan
It is lovely to have a stash so that I can make an afghan using only what I have in my bins. Even after making this, I have plenty of pink left!

Baby Blanket

This is a favorite blanket pattern and I've been making it for years. This particular blanket is for Christy's friend who recently had her first baby.

Sweater

This is another favorite pattern, and I was able to use up some of the wool in my bin. I've made this pattern a number of times, but this one will go to Taylor. TaylorSweater

Hats

These hats will go into my "whatever" box. I was trying to use up some wool, as welll as knitting a book from cover to cover. When it got right down to it though there are only a few patterns in the book that I like.

Hat1 I hope this little hat looks better on a baby. The straps fasten under the chin so it should keep a little head warm.
Hat2 Helmet2 This is one of my favorite patterns for kids' headwear. I made these helmets for my own kids, and for a couple of my grandchildren. This one doesn't have a home yet, but it is a large enough size that it may fit Taylor next year.

Heelhead Scarf

Not a great sounding name for this item, but it takes its name from the fact that the hood is made using the same technique as you use to turn the heel on a hand-knitted sock.

Knitted Bookmark

Bookmark The pattern came from the book Knit the Season by Kate Jacobs. Instead of using wool I used crochet cotton. I had to heavily starch the finished project.

Christmas 2010

Taylor is so attached to her blankie it is hard for Christy to get it in the wash. I made this one in the hope that it might do in a pinch.

After our move I had a bag of craft wool that I just couldn’t fit into any of my bins. I had moved this bag many times over the years (it originated in Yellowknife), and I just decided to sit down and knit it.I had made hangar covers with it in the past (as gifts) so decided to make some hangar covers for our spare room. I had more hangar covers than I needed by the time I finished the bag of wool, so I have a set in the Who Knows box.

New babies in our family receive a blanket. Here are a few of the ones I've done over the years.

Dylan Blanket

Asher Blanket

This blanket was knit in 4 triangles that were sewn together to form a square. I used two shades of pink, with a common shade for the border of each triangle

.

Vilena Blanket

This is the same 4-triangle pattern, but all the pieces were knit with the same varigated wool.

Alex Blanket

All wrapped up and ready to go.

Circular Blanket

This is one of my favorite blanket patterns.

For my newest Granddaughter

One of my most fun projects were these two afghans that my daughter and I worked on as gifts for my other two daughters. They were inspired by the book "The Friday Night Knitting Club". The pattern was a simple basket weave and we each did a few strips and then sewed them together.

Over the years there have miscellaneous projects - some of which I have recorded here.

Barbies

The patterns are easy to knit, but the skinny little legs and arms were difficult to sew and, I understand, are hard to get on Barbie.

Helmet

This is one of the warmest hats I've made. It fits tight around the head and doen't come off easily. I made it for my own children, and this one was made for my grandson.

Mitts

I can't take credit for the hats, but the mitts are mine.

Scarf

This pattern is nice because the hat has long ends that form into a scarf. One less thing to lose in the winter closet.

Mitts & Slippers

In the past I've made a number of sweaters, but they are few and far between these days.

I was so happy with the way this turned out I also made one for myself.

Felted bags are my newest craft. The procedure is to knit a pattern with 100% pure wool, then put it through the washing machine with hot water. I used plain wool for the basic bag, but added in a strand of different wools to get some variety in the pattern. I used Velcro to close the opening. Whether or not the bag is useful is totally irrelevant.
