 CROCHET

I consider myself a beginner when it comes to crochet, but I like the speed of the projects. Here are a few things I've made.

I admit that I had some of these squares done before I decided to make an afghan for Gavin. A few of the squares had centers that were originally crocheted by Mum.

Every year I make several of these Easter Chicks for family and friends.

The same set of folks generally get a pumpkin at Hallowe'en. The idea for this came from my niece who used these as table favors for her October wedding. I've used a variety of methods to make the faces - felt, then embroidering with black wool. I've recently learned that my niece used fabric paint.

Granny Square afghans are the best way to use up extra bits of wool left over from other projects. The first afghan below was made for my daughter - my partner in stitching who helped make the "Friday Night Knitting Club" afghans. Most of the wool came from my mother's yarn, with a bit of my own added in. The second afghan was made with leftovers of baby blankets I have made over the years. It was a project looking for a home when, sadly, my grandson lost his much-loved blankie and needed a replacement.

The third blanket is a replacement I made for another grandson who completely wore his first one out. He loved to poke is fingers through the holes so the pattern I used allowed him to do that and if a square was worn away I was able to replace the square and not start another blanket from scratch.

I made some of these carnations many many years ago. On a recent look through some of my patterns I rediscovered them and made a set as Mother's Day gifts for my daughters. The vases are samples of my Dad's woodwork. Are you wondering why 4 sets when I have only 3 daughters? At least one of allmost every craft I make is sent off to my best friend - who is also an avid crafter and shares her creations with me.
