 CARDS & GIFT BAGS

I first started making cards when my daughter gave me a card-making book as a gift. After about two years she added a new book to my collection and I was newly inspired. Some designs are from the books, some are adaptations of cards I see in shops, and some are "my own creations".

This was my 2010 Christmas card for Diane. I cut the tree pattern from material, and sewed on buttons as ornaments. I had a few gold balls and star shaped buttons that I also used to decorate the tree. The garland is made from sequins (each individually sewn to the tree).

Remember Shrink Art? I found some while cleaning out a drawer and thought it would be worth trying for my cards. I found that some colors worked better than others, and that you had no control over the way the sheet melted. It took a few tries, and there were some surprises, but it all worked out in the end.

This design is made using a small net bag (that I sewed). I fill the bags with confetti pieces that fit the occasion.

Birthday Cards
Some folks in our family celebrate half-birthdays too. The stitching on these cards is done by hand. It is a technique I'm really enjoying.

Card 3

The idea for this first card came from a Christmas card my granddaughter gave me on her first Christmas. It is fun working with the foam stickies. So I made another card, using stickies, for my grandson.

This is a series of cards using paper I made. I'd like to do more papermaking but somehow there just doesn't seem to be time. I got the idea for this card from an artist in Powell River. I used old buttons for the flower petals.

Card 2

I used different shades of cardstock, as well as contrasting wrapping paper. I used a paper punch for the heart and added some fake pearl beads. I've also made this card in shades of blue.

The idea for the card came from my card book and the gift idea was from a Real Simple Magazine. These were Mother’s Day gifts to my daughters. I used a photo of my daughter and her child (or children) to cover one side of the mirror.

The card on the left and on the right are the same basic pattern.

The pocket on this card is filled with puzzle pieces (stickers) that, when put together, spell "Happy Birthday Will".

For years I have wanted to try making my own gift tags. 2009 was the year to get started. I used bits of fabric glued onto cardstock and then each design was cut out and glued, once more, on card stock. Then each piece was cut into the gift tag shape.

I made these for my grandsons. They carry a lot of "stuff" and when little boys travel they need lots of "stuff". Bag2
