The Walking Dead

WD - 1

Would you eat your dinner on these placemats? I hope Christy and Madison will.

I was in a fabric shop in Courtenay on the way home from the Mount Washington retreat. I didn’t plan to make any purchases, but of course I did. When I saw this fabric I purchased enough to make a couple of placemats for a couple of Walking Dead fans. They were quick and easy to make; I changed the quilting pattern for each one but there were no ends to tie in!

Just in case they don’t want to eat off the gruesome side I put a pretty polka dot on the back.

In Love with Stained Glass (Not)

Stained Glass
Finished: 19.5″ x 13.5″

The Guild offered a class on reverse appliqué sometime in 2013. One of the few quilting books I owned before I started quilting (how did that happen?) was on stained glass.

The instructor, Susan Sharkey, is a member of our Guild and she wrote the pattern herself. The pattern is lovely and her instructions were excellent but I had trouble with the execution. So much so that I never touched the piece after the class was over.

But this year the Guild had a UFO Challenge and, since this was one of my oldest UFOs, it went on my list. I finished the piecing  over a few weeks of Tuesday bees. The quilting was quick, although not easy. I used a stitch-in-the-ditch around the leading but found I often slipped out of the ditch. I covered up those mistakes with a black Sharpie.

From a distance the piece looks good enough to hang for a couple of weeks in February to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Witches (2013)

Playing catch-up with a few projects that were left off the last website update. Here’s what I said in the “Draft” post at that time.

I needed a quick project to finish for my grandchildren for Hallowe’en. I’m usually quite good at paper piecing, but I had a few problems with this pattern. I didn’t finish it in time to take to Calgary at Thanksgiving, but I was able to get all three finished and in the mail before the 31st.

Easter 2014

As I was doing updates today I ran across a partial page that had never been posted. I made this table runner in 2014 and I think it went to Elizabeth. I may not have made three of them (as I usually do) because the photos next to it in the album are from a sewing session at Panorama with Stacia and Deloise and I probably stopped at Elizabeth’s on the way home.
