Breakfast with Curtis

This is a wonderful movie about an odd assortment of people who share a house, and the family who lives next door. The filmmaker was trying to raise funds for another project and, while she waited, she and her neighbours made this movie. By the time the movie was over, I wanted to move to their street!

Following the film we participated in the first-ever Skype Q&A session held in the 100-year-old Patricia Theater.

Chasing Ice

A stunning photographic documentary showing the receding glaciers of Greenland, Iceland and Alaska over a five year period. How could you not believe in global warming after seeing this movie?

The movie was shown with Reflections: Art for an Oil-Free Coast. A group of 50 artists travel the route that Enbridge proposes for its tanker traffic. The artwork coming out of this venture has been shown in BC and will soon be on its way to Alberta.

Hasta La Vista (Come as You Are)

Three young, disabled friends want to take a trip to Spain, unaccompanied by their parents. Their secret goal is to visit a brothel where they will lose their virginity. Arrangements are made for a driver/nurse, hotels have been booked, and their families have given them permission to go. Shortly before leaving, one of the men finds his health has deteriorated and his parents refuse to allow him to leave. Undeterred, the men decide to sneak away but their driver refuses to take them. In steps Claude and the boys are on the road!

The World Before Her

This documentary, filmed in India, contrasts the lives of two young Hindu women. One is hoping to win the very glamorous Miss India title, while the other is a drill sergeant traning Indian girls to fight against Western culture and Islam. Vying for the title includes a month-long training session in posture, and how to work the runway. The more militant woman is at odds with her father who insists that, as a woman, it is her duty to marry and have children.
