Let the quilting begin!

The train to Maçon was still not moving this morning so we took the Metro (two lines) and the train back to the airport. We met up with four other quilters and then met our host who loaded our bags onto a small trailer and drove us the hour and a half to our country retreat.

There isn’t room for everyone at the farmhouse so seven of us are staying in town. Pat and I and another quilter are sharing a “gite” which is a small apartment just across from the hotel. We have the upper floor, Carol has the bottom floor and we share the kitchen and living room. We will have our breakfasts at the hotel but the rest of our meals will be at the farm.

We had a short visit at the farm, met a few other quilters and then got settled. Our instructor arrived just as we were leaving but we got to know her much better over dinner. She is a hoot and I think I’ll enjoy the week. It appears that she will be teaching full days but I may miss an afternoon to two so Pat and I can do some sight-seeing.

Pat will pick up a car in the morning after breakfast. We will all meet for breakfast and then another quilter and myself (and maybe the instructor) will walk to the farm – about a half-hour cross country on an old railway bed.

Our neighbors are a couple of horses and goats – we really are out in the country.
