Paris – the fashion capital of the world

I had a list of things I needed to get done today in preparation for our trip. The top two things on the list were some clothes and an adaptor for my camera.

The cord that I use to transfer photos from my camera to my iPad stopped working about a year ago. Up to now I’ve just been putting my memory card directly into my computer to unload my photos. But if I want (and I do want) to upload photos from our trip I needed another solution. I borrowed a card reader from a friend but it connects to the new iPads; Pat thought he had the right card reader “somewhere” but couldn’t find it. Fortunately The Source had the card reader with the right adaptor in their clearance bin. I scooped it up and it works just fine. It also has the newer card reader and connector so I’m set if I get a new iPad (unlikely as mine still works for what I want it for).

I thought I should have something “nicer” to wear for our trip; most of my shopping these days is done at either the Economy Shop or from a bag of second-hand clothes that have been passed around among friends. I went to the fashion shop in the mall; the casual clothes I needed I would get at Mark’s. I started pulling things off the racks and before I knew it I had a brand new wardrobe in the change room. Since everything I picked fit and worked together I decided to splurge and get it all. Paris, after all, is one of the fashion capitals of the world and I’ll want to fit in!

Things are not going well for our guests. Gene’s dementia means his nights are often not calm and Wednesday night was particularly bad. As he got more and more agitated, Jenny became more and more upset. At 2 AM Thursday we called an ambulance and they took Gene to the hospital. Thursday morning they called to say he was having a heart attack. Gene remains in ICU; we have no idea what the next few days will bring but we have offered our house to Jenny for any length of time she needs it. We leave on Wednesday and will be gone for two weeks so if Gene gets out of hospital and needs a place to recuperate she has a place. We’ll sort out getting them back to Fort Smith when it looks more like he is ready to go.

As I was hanging my new clothes in the closet Pat was digging through some of our foreign currency from our last trip. While he was digging through the dish he found the iPad connector he had been looking for; I’d have been more upset about buying one if I’d paid the full price (about $50) as opposed to $9.99 out of the clearance bin.
