Blocks

Friday, April 15, 2016

I missed my post yesterday – not because I didn’t do anything, but there wasn’t anything of interest for you or for me in it. I worked all day on paperwork, but most of it was spent working on the Guild recipe book. Since I increased the font size for the pages I have to re-export all my recipes and of course they don’t fit on the same pages so there is a lot of back and forth between print previews and my exports. I’ve added a few cute quotes and helpful hints on some of the pages to fill in the gaps; in others I’ve inserted a small picture (a quilty joke of some sort).

Blocks - 1 (1)Blocks - 2 (1)But today I’m moving on. I’m all caught up on my Circa 2016 quilt-along; they announce the new blocks on Friday so I had last week’s and this week’s to do. They generally go quite quickly as I can often use my “mistakes”, my extras and pre-cut scraps to make the blocks. I see that one of last week’s blocks is a mirror image from what it is supposed to be; the blue block was one I pulled from my “mistake” pile so I think the green one is right. I don’t think it will matter so for now I’ll leave it as is. I read a little further into that post this morning and, by the end of the project, I’m going to need 120 half-square triangles trimmed to two inches; I guess I’ll get started on them as time permits on my Block days.

Oops!
Oops!

I was way behind on my Splendid Sampler blocks. The last block I did was paper pieced and I think I did half of it twice. When it was done it wasn’t the right size so I expected to do it all over again. But since then I have decided to use these blocks as cards so the size doesn’t matter so much and I moved on. I was still three blocks behind but, following the advice of the designers, I started with the latest one and worked backwards. At the end of the day I’m still one full block behind and, as you can see, I’m going to have to do some reverse stitching!

Blocks - 5 (1)And there are four more Leader and Ender blocks finished. I have 80 blocks finished now, and at least 20 more cut out. I’ll have to find my pattern and see how many I need.

We’re going out for dinner tonight to celebrate Pat’s birthday. I wonder if the restaurant has a senior’s discount?
