International Quilting Day (it really is a thing!)

Today is International Quilting Day and I wanted to get a lot done. My first project turned out to be more of a challenge than I expected so I won’t move ahead as quickly as I would have liked to.

IMG_7988March 19 - 1I posted the photo on the left to our Timberlane Facebook page with a question as to what everyone else was working on for our special day. I had all those small pieces cut, starched, cut on the diagonal and one block set up ready for stitching. After all the smaller pieces were together I struggled with how they should be trimmed. I did the math several times and came up with a different answer every time. I finally gave up and asked Pat to help me with the math. We used several pieces of paper, the ruler, the calculator and we still weren’t sure. Finally I said I was going to cut off the dog ears, sew the pieces together and see what happened.

The end result is a block that is an inch larger than it should be but the piece is for a card so the size isn’t very important.

I’m moving on now to some blocks for my Farmer’s Wife quilt. The discussions yesterday with Stacia and Deloise have me wanting to get started on I’m a Farmer’s Daughter but I promised myself not to start that until the Farmer’s Wife is done. I saw a new way to paper piece that doesn’t reverse the pattern (something I’ve struggled with on this project) so I’m anxious to try it.
