I’ve had a busy few days. Even though we had a House Concert on Tuesday evening I was able to squeeze out enough time to go to my quilting bee. We were working on a special project that day and I didn’t want to miss it. I’ll post photos later but the bonus with this project was it really was quick and it didn’t become another UFO on my ever-growing pile.
We had more than a full house for the concert on Tuesday. We were full and then added a couple more when people called and begged. There were quite a few new people and that is always a good sign. We can fit extras in if we need or want to by using stools around the island in the kitchen. A couple of folks who arrived at the last minute didn’t want to sit in the back corner of the living room so we suggested they use the stools; we didn’t realize that they were going to move the stools into the living room to be closer to the stage. I thought they blocked the hallway too much but we moved the stools in the intermission so we were okay. Another newcomer needed a footstool for her leg; again another chair that had to be moved out of the way during the intermission.
My bargello runner was needing a wash so I moved my recently completed chair cover (photos to follow) to the island in the kitchen. You might remember that this is mainly a dark colour with white blocks running through it. I managed not to let out a huge gasp when one of our newcomers spilled her glass of red wine on it. Fortunately the accident happened during the show’s encore so I was able to rescue the cloth before the stain had set and dried. A quick and generous spray of OxiClean, and a load of laundry later, it had all come out clean.
Our performers had yesterday off so they spent the day with us. The women were fun to have around and didn’t require much “looking after”. I had time to finish my Tuesday project while they were out exploring the town, and I got another chapter of my Guild recipe book edited and ready for proofreading.
Last night was my first ukulele lesson; I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it but it ended up being a lot of fun. There are only two of us in the class and our teacher says we have caught on very quickly. She doesn’t even expect us to practice every day! I’ve come home with a few things to practice and I hope to do a little bit most days.
The ladies left on the noon ferry today and I’ve been scrambling to get Valentine cards made and parcels ready for the mail. I’ve done a couple of loads of laundry too. I have a Guild meeting tonight so I’d better get my report written and my bag packed.
