Great start to the day

Monday, February 1, 2016

I went to bed early last night and was awake at four. I tried to get back to sleep but by five I decided that wasn’t going to happen and I got up. By the time it was six I was more than ready for coffee and when Pat got up at seven I already had the guest beds made and was working upstairs.

Before breakfast, as Pat was checking his mail, he glanced out the window and saw a couple of orcas just off the end of the marina. We watched them for awhile as they made their way south. As we were waiting for them to resurface from the ferry wake I saw more fins quite a bit further out. We thought it was perhaps a pod of dolphins that the orcas were hunting. We watched a bit longer and realized the group we saw further out we’re also orcas; the two groups eventually joined up for a pod of six. It was exciting to see them so close in and we had a great view even without the telescope.

We spent the better part of the day getting ready for the concert. I intend to go quilting tomorrow so all my tasks have to be done by the end of the day. Pat got the groceries and we made a trip to the liquor store to stock up. Our performers called last night and when I asked if they liked beer or wine the response was “Yes!”. They have a day off after our show and will spend an extra day with us. No bother except we need to prepare a few more meals; one of the women is vegetarian so that requires a bit more planning.

Pat is off to the movies tonight. It has been ages since I’ve seen a movie but I thought this one (The Revenant) might be a bit too violent for my taste.
