It’s my best friend’s birthday today and I broke out my favourite fabric to make something for her.
The neck wrap is filled with rice so it can be warmed in the microwave or cooled in the freezer; every second pocket has a few drops of lavender oil. I wanted the scent to come through but not be too overpowering. The pattern looked and read so simple; while I did the cutting and stitching I was already planning on how many more of these I could make. Then came the part where I had to fill the pockets with rice and I changed my tune. I used much less rice than the pattern suggested; even then I broke a needle and I also had to restitch a few seams when rice got caught in the seam line or under the edge of the walking foot. I’m happy with the results though.
The spa mask (fancy name for the eye pillow) was simple enough to make. I put a few lavender flowers between the layers but I’m not sure the scent comes through. At this point everything smells more or less like lavender.
The card idea came from one of my Guild library books. I used the book for the pattern but after that I pretty much did what I wanted. Diane likes (is jealous of) my machine that does the Blanket Stitch, and I love any excuse to use some of my fancy stitches!
