Busy days

I made two trips out yesterday. In the morning I got a parcel off in the mail, dropped a couple of bags of stuff at the economy shop, stopped at Safeway for a couple of things and then headed to the fabric shop. My order was ready and I wanted to do a bit more shopping. I picked up some backing for a couple of quilts, as well as some of that pretty fabric I had seen last weekend. By the time Lainey had sorted out these new fabrics the shop was busy so she asked me to come back later in the afternoon as she wanted to go over my on-line order with me.

I spent the afternoon resewing the dark strip pieces from the Guild workshop. I have all of the strips put together but I haven’t arranged them in blocks. Because so many of the fabrics are the same I’ll have to lay them all out to be sure I haven’t used the same fabrics in a block or the same fabrics in adjacent blocks. I thought I only had enough for a table topper but I may end up with a small lap quilt. Depending on how things look, I may make up two table toppers; the Guild is hosting a regional event this fall and they are looking for table toppers as door prizes and small quilty things for raffle baskets.

It was late in the afternoon when I got back to the fabric shop. Some of the fabrics I ordered were no longer available and some were at the end of the bolt and so had slightly more than I asked for. Lainey explained it all to me and I assured her if she was okay with how it worked out I was too. I have several colours from four of my favourite fabric lines; I don’t know what they will turn into but I won’t have to shop for fabric for quite awhile.

Today my task has been to put all that fabric away. I started out by sorting through some of my one-and-a-half inch squares; I found a pattern that I can adapt to a miniature and that can be a leader and ender project. When I moved to my new fabrics I thought I might have to get more bins but by sorting and rearranging a couple of drawers and moving some yarn I was able to get it all put away without crowding my space too much. What I really need to do is finish a few of my UFOs so that those fabric bins will be available and I’ll have more space. Finishing takes so much time though and it isn’t nearly as much fun as starting a new project.

Speaking of finishing – I thought I was done my Joy wall hanging but realized somewhere in the middle of the night that it needs to have a sleeve. I have the binding attached but not hand stitched so the sleeve will be an easy add.

I’m off to spend the rest of the day doing some repair work on a crochet project of Mum’s.
