I decided not to go to the bee today, even though they were taking a road trip out to Bliss Landing (way past Lund) to the home of one of our members. I was afraid taking a day off from my quilting would make all the difference between getting it done with time to spare and panicking when it wasn’t finished as my travel date came closer.
I eliminated the tracing step from most of my blocks today. Most of the quilting is done in straight lines, squares or triangles. Yesterday I was using my chalk marker to draw the lines, but often the chalk didn’t show well on a particular piece of fabric and, to be honest, I often was going off the lines when I stitched. So today I’m free-wheeling all of those (almost) straight lines, using my walking foot to give me an almost quarter-inch border and fudging on the corners of the triangles.
It is going much faster and I don’t think it makes a lot of difference in the look. I hope to finish the quilting before I stop for supper. I’ll have homework when I’m done because I’ve been quilting all afternoon I haven’t been tying in any of the knots.
