What was I thinking?

A Facebook friend was having a yard sale today that included cross stitching supplies. We’ve attempted to meet face-to-face several times but things never seemed to work out. I stopped at her sale this morning and picked up a couple of small kits (that I may be able to get done for the craft sale), a couple of patterns, some floss and Aida cloth. Not a bad haul for $5.

As I drove by Safeway I noticed a big sale going on in their parking lot. I stopped for a look; it was mostly things I wasn’t the least bit interested in but I foundĀ a light box for $20. When I traced the patterns for the embroidery on Elizabeth’s quilt I sure could have used a light box; I set up one of the extensions to my sewing machine with a small light underneath it so I could see the pattern through the fabric. I will be able to put it to the test when I make the label – I have big plans for the label on her quilt!

I made one more stop on my way home – at the fabric shop. I didn’t have quite enough fabric for the backing of the quilt but I was lucky enough to find something that went okay with what I had.

But what was I thinking when I decided to make a pieced backing! It is like making two quilts by the time all the pieces are stitched together, cut into squares and sewn together. I don’t think I’ll be doing this again, but I guess it is good to try everything once.

I had hoped to get two projects sandwiched today; I’ll see if I can get one done before dinner.
