Things didn’t go as planned

I was off to the bee this morning after a quick stop at the Post Office. I took the quilt top I’m making for Family Place to work on. It needed a border to finish the top, and I took backing, batting and thread so I could start quilting it.

I had three fabrics with me that I thought would work as borders; somehow what looked good at home didn’t look so good in the light of the hall. Carola helped me decide nothing I had was appropriate so I set the top aside.

For the backing I planned to use some fabric from curtains I made for Dylan’s room; when Christy moved she sent me back a few pairs of curtains that I made over the years. As I was picking out the hem, a fellow quilter said that unless I was short of fabric I should just cut the hems off the bottom and side. That seemed like a good idea, but since the top of the curtains (a fold-over style) had quite a bit of fabric in them I thought it would be worth picking out that stitching. After only a few stitches I could see there was going to be a faded line where the fabric had been folded. Even cutting off the top of the curtain I still have plenty of fabric to work with, and I’ve only used one half of the pair.

Fortunately I added my embroidery to my bag this morning because I’ve never quilted much with Pearl and I thought I should have something else to work on in case things didn’t go well. I worked on Elizabeth’s House all day;. I can’t say I’ve completed another block, but at least I made some progress.
