Smoke day

Monday, July 6, 2015

SmokeI waited all morning for BOND to call and cancel the lunch today; I felt certain that with all the smoke advisories they wouldn’t want their Mums and babies to be out in it. No call came so I headed down to the office.

As I arrived they were in a panic as to whether to go ahead or cancel. They could try to arrange rides for the Mums (most of our Mums walk) or they could cancel and hopefully no one would show up for a lunch that wasn’t being served. I offered to help them make their calls and they decided to cancel. They had a lot of other things going on in the office and both of the coordinators felt they needed the time.

There are likely some changes coming to BOND. They have been asked (or maybe they are being told) that their space should combine with the Family Place space (for Mums and Toddlers) in a new location at the mall. The BOND office would be much smaller and both Connie and Carolina are worried about confidentiality. Family Place, as a program, is closed on Monday and Friday morning, so BOND could do their confidential meetings at those times, except Monday is the group lunch and the coordinators don’t generally work on Friday. Connie is totally against the move; Carolina thinks it is a “done deal” and is trying to figure out ways it might work. Moving the day of the group lunch is a distinct possibility. I was happy to spend the morning with them talking about the pros and cons, but I’m glad I don’t need to make any decision. Whatever they decide likely won’t make much difference to me.

I tried not to waste the free time I had today. The trunk of my car was full of cans and bottles so I dropped them off at the Recycle Depot. We used to have to drive south of town to the depot and so we’d let things pile up before we’d make the trip. The depot have moved just up the street, between us and the airport, so I can keep on top of them much better now.

Pat and I went out for lunch and then I got busy and did the appliqué work on Block 7. I’ll get it marked for embroidery before dinner. I thought I’d be doing those tasks at the bee tomorrow so now I’ll have to find another project – not to worry, I have lots of them!
