When I woke up this morning there was an eerie glow coming in the window. Smoke from the wildfires in the area has settled in, along with ash falling on cars and outdoor furniture. It is so dark inside that I need to have the lights on in the studio. The temperature is much cooler and there is an other-wordly feel to the day. These photos were taken just after lunch.
I finished Block 5 of Elizabeth’s House – finally.
My plan for today was to do the appliqué required on Block 7 and get it sewn together. When I worked on the blocks at the Texada Retreat I didn’t have my Steam-a-Seam so had to leave the large piece of appliqué in this block until I got home. I set Block 7 aside because it was a going to take some work and set about marking Block 6. I got the pattern aligned on the block and realized I had put it together wrong; all three seams of the mini-blocks needed to be taken apart but thankfully none of the mini blocks themselves were wrong. I got that sorted out and again lined up my pattern only to realize that this block was missing some appliqué. I’ve now got the appliqué done and the block marked.
Having set aside Block 7 for later I lined up Block 8; no errors in placement, but it too needed some appliqué work. Block 8 is appliquéd and marked and I’ll move on to Block 9 now – yes it needs some appliqué work as well.
