A mini day

Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Our next mini session for the Guild is coming up soon and I haven’t done anything on my minis since the Mount Washington retreat.

There was a new block posted in my quilt-along series so I started the day with it. Each of the blocks in the top row in the photo will finish at three inches, and the bottom-row blocks will finish at four inches. Hopefully, by the time the quilt-along ends I will have enough blocks for a sampler. All of these blocks are hand pieced.

The block this month was the heart.

I had almost all the English Paper piecing done for my second mini project, so I finished that off next. Then I stitched one of the fans together just to see how it would look. The blocks are set on point and my first attempt at the side and top piece failed. I couldn’t find any math tutorials that would tell me what size of squares I needed for corners and setting triangles for a 2 3/8″ square. I cut some that I thought were big enough, sewed them on, and then cut them down to what I hope is the right size. I guess I’ll see when I add the next row.

I continued piecing the fans together, trying out a few different systems for getting everything to line up and fit. The three fans held with pins still need to be stitched down to the background. I’ll carry on with the last four fans after supper; Pat will be out for the evening so I can extend my sewing day.
