Another early night

I went to bed really early last night and slept until the Texada ferry sounded (and sounded, and sounded) their fog horn. I had the alarm set for about that time anyway because I needed to get my scalloped potatoes into the crock pot. I peeled the potatoes and onions last night and grated and measured my cheese. I thought if I had everything ready by seven I’d be good for lunch at one. It took me longer than expected to slice the potatoes and onions and make the cheese sauce so it was close to eight before I turned the crock pot on. I wasn’t worried though; I cooked them on high rather than low and they had just the right amount of time.

It was an emotional day at BOND as one of the woman spoke about a recent HIV diagnosis. Everyone was very supportive and many of us were in tears as she spoke. She said that  a lot of the feedback she was getting wasn’t based on facts and she felt she wanted to educate people so she was sharing her story. One of the Public Health nurses was in attendance as well as a local doctor. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the disease, but I learned a few things. She is a brave woman and we are all thankful that her newborn has been tested and appears free of the virus.

I hadn’t done a BOND lunch since the Christmas dinner so there were lots of new faces, including a few very sweet newborns. I was in charge of Chloe while her Mum had her lunch; Chloe is an older baby who will be leaving us soon. They are all such a delight and the current group of woman are great fun. It’s a smaller group but they sure cleaned up the scalloped potatoes and ham; no problem with leftovers today.

It’s very early but I think I’m headed to bed pretty quick. I think one more long night’s sleep and I’ll be back to having enough energy to get me past noon!
