What I learned from Dylan and Taylor this week

Girls are very different than boys!

There will be laundry to do every day, and it isn’t just because they only had a small suitcase. Taylor has more clothing changes in a day than any of the award show hostesses.

When you go to the beach there will be no time to read a trashy novel (or even great literature). I took my book with me right up until the last day and I didn’t read a page.

When you go to the beach everything you take will come home covered in sand – kids, sand toys, shoes, beach bags, towels – and that helps explain point two.

When you go to the beach your house will be full of sand. You can vacuum and sweep as many times a day as you want, but there will always be sand underfoot.

Kids need to be fed every half hour. It doesn’t matter if they’ve just finished two plates of supper, they’ll be starving less than an hour later.

It is difficult to find “alone” time to do even the basics, like a shower. Okay, I sort of remember that!

My daughters do an awesome job managing their own lives and the lives of my grandchildren.

The house is going to be too quiet and I’m going to miss Dylan and Taylor so much.
