I dropped Pat at the airport just before nine this morning and planned a full day of sewing. It has sort of worked out that way.
I made my card for the day. I always think they will be a quick job and then when it’s done I’ll move on to something more time-consuming. I need to adjust my mind to the fact that those cards take about three hours from start to finish, excluding getting them ready for the mail. So it was lunch before I was able to move anywhere.
After lunch I did my Farmer’s Wife block for the day. This was an easy one and I was finished very quickly so I thought I would take some time to do some room adjustments. I have loaded all my CD’s onto iTunes so I was ready to get rid of the CD changer, amp and speakers. Fortunately Pat has a use for them so I only needed to move them to the basement. While I was down there I found a set of cupboards (four drawers) that were empty; those would make good hiding storage spots for me. So I spent a good part of the afternoon moving things up and down the stairs.
It took quite awhile to sort out my prep room (that’s what I’m calling the room across the hall from my sewing room). My curio cabinet has been behind the door with a chair in front of it so I never really saw it. In it’s new location I can admire my collection while I’m pressing (I’ll be careful not to burn my fingers). The new cupboard fit back in the corner with the chair; a couple of the drawers need some repairs, but I have already tucked away some card making supplies, my foundation fabric and my quilting pins and tape. After these changes I had one chair sitting in the middle of the room. I moved my bookcase and my ironing board over by the window and put the chair in the corner they came out of. That leaves room for my cutting table to be more or less in the middle of the room and accessible from three sides (and I could get at the fourth side if I really needed to.
I haven’t tried making anything yet with the new layout, but I’m going to try to get a Guild star done before I break for dinner.
