I had an appointment with a doctor this morning and he gave me the all clear on the spots I had removed a couple of weeks ago. He is retired and helps out at the clinic on Fridays for their walk-in patients. It is tempting to consider arranging all my non-urgent clinic visits for Fridays, but I’m afraid at some point he will retire for good and I’d be in the same situation as I am now – no family doctor. I’m going to make inquiries about finding a doctor in either Comox or Courtenay. I think the cost of a walk-on ferry plus cab fare would cost less than taking the car, but in spite of the costs I’d at least feel like I had some continuity of care.
As soon as I got home Pat and I loaded the bags of yard waste into the truck and headed to the dump. One of Pat’s reasons for getting the truck was so we could do this job ourselves and not have to pay anyone to haul it away. The last time we dumped compost we didn’t have to pay but now we pay by weight; you weigh the vehicle going in and coming out and are charged for the difference. The dump and the bottle recycler are very close together and when Pat got out of the truck to pay I thought that it would be nice if our bottle refunds paid for the dumping fees. I thought I heard the attendant say $19 and I was thinking we were going to have to start drinking a whole lot more if that equation was going to work out. Luckily I heard wrong and we only paid $9. I think we can managed that (and our garbage tags) quite nicely on our bottle refund money.
Finally, after lunch, I was able to get back to my sewing. I finished up the card I started at the bee on Tuesday and then made one of my Farmer’s Wife blocks. I was going to paper-piece it because it had 36 inch-and-a-half pieces, but there was no way I could figure out the paper and the pattern so I ended up having to work with all those little bits. I had a heck of a time getting everything going in the right direction, but it finally came together.
