I had a little better luck with my plan today. The card for the day was the same as I had made yesterday, so I knew all the pitfalls and what to watch out for. I had the card top finished very quickly.
The Farmer’s Wife block was a little more problematic. I’m still having difficulty with the paper piecing; because it reverses the pattern I see in the book I have a hard time getting my head around which colours are supposed to go in which spot. The fabric of Mum’s I was using was very small, but I really wanted to make it work with the block. I used the paper piecing method for the outside of the block and then just cut fabric to the right size for the middle of the block. By lunchtime I needed a break because the centre wasn’t fitting the measurements for the outside edges.
After lunch things looked better and, by taking apart a bit of the paper piecing and using cut fabrics, I was able to get the block together. I had a hard time stretching the block to 6.5″, but I think once it is sewed to either another block or some sashing it will be fine.
So here it is, not even the middle of the afternoon, and according to my great plan I should be moving on to my “main” project. I’m not really sure what that “main” project is though. Should I work a little more on Elizabeth’s quilt? Should I do my pizza box block? Should I work on the two star blocks I need for our Guild wind-up party? No, I think for today my “main” project will be a little work on my crazy quilt. It too is due at the Guild wind-up and I’ve hardly started on it.
