Slicing and Dicing

I finished up the cards for the Calgary birthdays before lunch. I needed to go to the dollar store for some wrapping paper so I asked Pat if he wanted to go out for lunch. My budget was thinking A&W or McDonalds, but Pat had sushi in mind. The sushi place is next door to one of the dollar stores so it seemed like a reasonable option. When we got there the sushi place was closed for Spring Break so I suggested the Vietnamese restaurant. When we got there the parking lot was full; their parking is shared with two thrift stores so someone was doing a good business today. We ended up eating lunch at the pub in the mall.

I finished wrapping the birthday gifts and then started prepping for one of the projects I plan to take with me for my week of sewing with Stacia and Deloise. The pattern for the rug was a freebie at the Saskatoon Quilt Show. I’m going to make the rug and Stacia and Deloise will make the table runner that is included in the same pattern. It took me longer than I anticipated to get everything cut. I recently purchased some fabric from the stash of one of our quilters  and I wanted to use that rather than cutting into new (more expensive) fabric. Not all of the pieces I had were the right size so I had to mix and match until I ended up with the right number of strips in the right sizes. I was so very close to having enough of one fabric for the backing, but in the end I had to piece several fabrics together before I got the right size. The rug will be reversible so it didn’t really matter what I was using.

The second project we are all working on includes a lot of cutting. Deloise (and perhaps Stacia) purchased pre-cut squares for their project, but I’m going to have to cut my own squares out of the fat quarters I bought. I’ve been waiting patiently to get these pieces cut because I’m anxious to use what is left in another project (or maybe another couple of projects).  My back is starting to ache from leaning over my cutting table so I think I’ll finish the day by putting away all the odds and ends of fabric I’ve pulled for my last few projects.

I should get the last sock finished up tonight, and then I’ll start the binding on Wonky Stars.
