Looking for my rhubarb

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

I went down the hill this morning and had coffee with Carola. I went out the front door and looked around the flower bed for my rhubarb. Still no sign of it and I’m getting worried. I had such a good crop last year but I’m afraid perhaps I cut it back too much in the fall. Perhaps I should have covered the base of it with the leaves? I haven’t given up hope, but if it doesn’t appear soon I’ll have to get a new plant. That would be too bad because from what I’ve read you aren’t supposed to cut the rhubarb in the first year. That would mean no fresh rhubarb until 2015, unless I buy it from someone.

Spring1Spring2I did find a few other things growing though. The daffodils on the deck have been in blossom for quite awhile, but the ones in the yard are just starting. The irises are growing taller every day and I found blossoms on this bush. I saw my first cherry blossoms in town yesterday and I saw lots of periwinkle when I walked to the mailbox on Monday.

I stitched the binding on Wonky Stars before a late lunch. I’ll have some hand stitching to do in the evenings, but I want to finish up the socks first. I’ll take the quilt with me when I travel so no need to have it done immediately. I spent the rest of the afternoon on Emma’s birthday card. It went quite quickly and I’ve even got some of the quilting done on it. I’m concentrating on the projects that need to be done quickly, as I want to have them on the bus to Calgary by Monday. In order to do that I’ll have a busy weekend.

There is still some afternoon left so I think I’ll cut the fabric for Madison’s card.
