I was out the door early and looking forward to starting my first bag at the sewing bee. Our Guild’s “bag lady” had offered to help me out if I ran into problems so I was counting on her being available at the bee. When I arrived, Kathleen was nowhere in site.
I hadn’t done any fabric pre-cutting as I wanted to use the Guild’s larger cutting mat. I carefully made notes of what I needed to make, and what fabric was slated for the top of the bag and which was for the bottom of the bag. And then I immediately cut a piece out of the wrong fabric. I blame it on all the noise, chatter and confusion going on at the Guild, but I really should have been able to pay better attention. That wasn’t my only cutting mistake either. I still have one piece that is half an inch short, but I set it aside because I didn’t want to find out I didn’t have enough fabric left to make another piece. If necessary I can add a bit on, but hopefully I’ll be okay.
I finished the cutting just as folks were digging out their lunch. I waited until after lunch to set up my machine and start sewing. I was carefully following the directions and only had one part that I didn’t understand. Fortunately by then Kathleen had arrived and she set me straight. At the end of the day I had two lined pockets, and one piece of pocket left over. When I re-read my pattern to see where that piece fit in I realized one of the pockets had been done wrong. It only means a bit of reverse stitching and restitching to correct the error so it is recoverable. This is a Christmas gift I’m working on and, with all my boo boos, it’s a good thing I’ve started early!
And my luck continued when I got home. I sent a St. Patrick’s Day parcel to Elizabeth a week ago and it hasn’t arrived. There was no information online about the parcel so I called Canada Post. As I was giving her my information I realized that when I put the postal code on the slip I wrote “2TA” rather than “T2A”. I didn’t admit that to the person I was speaking to but no doubt I will get caught if they are able to track the package. Hopefully I wasn’t too snarly with her!
