A couple of days ago Pat and I heard a discussion on the radio about TV binge watching. We don’t have cable or satellite TV, but we do enjoy Netflix. And we are totally guilty of binge watching. When we are looking for a series to watch, we will check to see how many season are available. We consider if they make five or six seasons of a show it must be pretty good. There are exceptions, but for the most part we have been very happy with our choices. And I really don’t see any difference between watching three episodes of one show as opposed to one episode of three different shows. Probably the really issue here is watching three shows of anything in an evening, but if I didn’t watch the TV shows I’d never get any knitting done!

When we were in Victoria I picked up a Roddy Doyle book called The Dead Republic. At the time, I knew it was one of a series, and I knew we had the first two instalments on the book shelves. Yesterday I went looking for A Star Called Henry only to find the “D” section of the library was closed off with Pat’s music equipment. So I started perusing the books on some of the other shelves. Much to my surprise I found the Outlander series of books. And oddly enough the only book in the series (up to book 6) that I didn’t have was the one I just finished borrowing from the library. I picked up A Breath of Snow and Ashes and started reading. Only two more books to go and I’ll be caught up to the author!

One of my favourite series of books is the Jean Auel collection. I’ve read all but the last book, but it was such a long time ago that I’ve started re-reading the series. So far I’ve made it to the third book in a series of six.

We were at a library book sale today. I showed great restraint and came home with only four books. The Tropic of Cancer is a classic, but I didn’t know it was part of a trilogy. I also picked up The Witches of Eastwick, only to find there is a follow-up to it called The Widows of Eastwick. I also found a copy of On The Beach (a favourite from Mum and Dad’s collection) and Brida by Paulo Coelho.

It looks like I’ll have to do a bit of binge reading if I am to get through all of these series.
