This is a lovely story about a Chinese boy and a Japanese girl who become friends when they both attend, on scholarship, a mainly white school. Their story begins just after the bombing of Pearl Harbour and they are bullied and discriminated against on a daily basis. Their lives are changed forever when the Japanese are forced out of their homes and are shipped off to internment camps. There is so much going on in this small book, but at no point in their story did it feel rushed.
