Going out of business

In December I decided that 2013 would be the last year for my SW Consulting business. For the past few years Pat has been my only client, and it was a pain to keep track of the time I spent on his accounts. I’d wait until I had enough work to make it worth my while, and then I’d resent having to spend all that time on it. I had to collect, report and submit GST/HST every quarter as well. I’ll still have the same amount of accounting work to do, but I can do it as paperwork comes in (or goes out). I think Pat and I will both be less frustrated at trying to remember back to exactly what any particular receipt might have been for (or trying to find specific receipts).

Having made that decision I put the whole matter out of my head. Until this morning when it dawned on me that I was going to have to file a final GST report to the end of last year. It didn’t take me long, and I was pleased to have made my final payment to them.

I finished up my Valentine projects last night so I got them, and the birthday cards, in the mail. Since I’m making a variety of sizes for the cards, finding envelopes the correct size is going to be an issue. I made two envelopes by cutting a larger envelope in half and taping the open sides; and I wrapped some as parcels so the contents lay flat. When I got to the post office they told me that if they could fold a few of the pieces I could save about $8 each. So if your card comes all folded up in a ball you will understand why!

I hate to admit that I stopped at the fabric store on my way home. I was three months behind in picking up my Blocks of the Month (and five months behind in making them) and I had one pattern that I wanted to check and see if any of her sale fabric would be appropriate. It was, and I also picked up a couple of sale bundles of fabric that I’ve had (or may still have) and really liked. The quilt I have in mind for Dylan requires lots of shades of green and I found a lovely bundle of green fat quarters – how could I resist.

She also had some really wide backing fabric on for $6.50 so I came home, checked my patterns and then phoned the store and told them to put whatever was left away for me. Hopefully tomorrow when I pick it up I’ll show more restraint than I did today.

My next projects are a couple of reserved signs for our House Concert. We have two tall chairs from the deck that are placed by the railing in the dining room and two of our friends have always sat in them. At the last concert they were late, and when they arrived “their” chairs were taken. I’ll fix that problem this time.

And to add a little more to my day I decided to change the furniture around in my sewing room (again)! I swung my long desk around so it sits behind Ruby so when I’m working on a quilt the bulk of it will sit on the desk. I’ve used a smaller table but it didn’t work as well as I would have liked. And I hope to be quilting quilts on a more regular basis this year.

I think I’ll be back at knitting tonight. We decided that the tube socks weren’t going to work as well for Pat as they did for me so I’ll rip them back and put in a heel. Hopefully I remember how that was done!
