Can you really call it a road trip when you only spend a day on the road? Our plan was to leave Calgary on Tuesday, spend a night somewhere down the road, and continue home today.
We left Elizabeth’s at about 7 AM yesterday after all the kids were up and just before Madison set off for school; Ray was long gone before we were even up! We had a brief side trip into Banff; we stopped for coffee in Revelstoke and lunch in Golden. We reached Kamloops mid-afternoon and didn’t really feel like it was time to quit for the day. We had a coffee, filled the truck with gas and carried on. We were on the outskirts of Vancouver just before 5 PM and it seemed like a logical idea to drive on through and sleep in our own bed.
Thanks to the HOV lane we were at Horseshoe Bay in plenty of time for our 7:30 ferry. Sadly, the 7:30 ferry was late and wasn’t scheduled to arrive in Horseshoe Bay until 8 PM. That meant we couldn’t make the 9 PM ferry out of Earl’s Cove and would have to wait for the 11 PM sailing. By this time we were too far in to turn back. We finally made it home just after midnight!
Although it was good to be home, it was a long day and it stopped being fun after the first hour of waiting at Horseshoe Bay. I should have felt like I had an “extra” day today, but I can’t seem to get myself organized to do anything. I’ve done a bit of cleaning in my studio and posted a few more items to my Tickle Trunk.
We’re off to the movie tonight and I’m hoping that after a good sleep tonight I’ll be back to normal tomorrow!
