I was late getting to the bee today. I stopped at the Post Office to mail an envelope, and then was stuck working at the Red Cross for an hour.
Even though I was late getting at it, I got way more done than I expected. My plan was to get my baby quilt cut out. I almost didn’t take my sewing machine because I doubted I’d get far enough to need it, but I’m glad I had it with me. My “usual” table at the bee was gone so I sat next to Barb (my guru from Texada). She saw me cutting one fat quarter and convinced me I should be cutting more than one at a time. I was nervous, but ended up stacking and cutting four fabric pieces at a time. That part of the cutting went very quickly.
Next I had to cut the 60 strips into four different lengths. I cut one strip and then decided to “go for it” and I stacked those for cutting as well. I had all the cutting finished by lunch time. After lunch I string-pieced everything I need to make the blocks. The two different sets of pieces still need to be stitched together but I’m further along than I ever would have imagined.
Barb took a copy of my pattern and I joked that she’d probably get hers done before I had mine finished. I know she could do this pattern in a day if she set her mind to it but she said she wouldn’t start until she knew I was finished. I think I’ll sit beside Barb more often.
