I left the house at 9:30 this morning and didn’t get back until after five. My first stop was the Red Cross. I needed to drop off some paperwork that I did over the weekend. I wanted to be there before the shop opened. Some of these ladies are very dedicated though and the Monday morning volunteer was already at work when I arrived. I was able to explain to her how we were handling things with the new system.
From there I headed to the BOND office. I was making a Seven Layer Dip today so I was confident about my recipe. I decided I would skip the meat so everyone could eat the same batch. I added the taco seasoning to the refried beans and an extra layer of cheese made up the seventh layer. After it was prepared and waiting to be served, the head of Community Health said it looked good and wanted to know where I bought it! I always worry about my presentation so I guess I did okay today.
We have a new/old coordinator. Jen has been on maternity leave for a year and today was her first day back. She was busy meeting all the ladies and babies. We had two new ladies today so we went around the table and introduced ourselves. I have done this before, but perhaps I never mentioned I was a volunteer. After lunch two of the ladies came and thanked me; they didn’t realize I volunteered my time.
The big news is that Connie, the other coordinator, is engaged. She and her honey, as she calls him, have been together for four years but he proposed to her over the weekend. She is Wiccan so everyone was wondering what sort of wedding they will have. She said she would have agreed to a traditional wedding but they couldn’t have it in a church because her dog had to be there. I think they agreed on a pot luck and ceremony at Shelter Point on Texada. Connie grew up on Texada and Russ proposed at Shelter Point.
After finishing up at BOND I went back to the Red Cross. We had a system all worked out that, at the end of the day, I would call Courtenay with a list of returned equipment that needed to be renumbered. Teri would give me the number and I would label the equipment and get it back into circulation. I had a small stack of items that were set aside for renumbering but, when I called Courtenay, Teri wasn’t in the office today. I guess we worked her too hard last week! I ended up sending her an email with the equipment information and, hopefully, I’ll get a list of numbers back for tomorrow afternoon. Then I made the mistake of starting eight Windows updates; an hour later I was finally able to leave.
It’s definitely been a working day for me and I’m tired tonight. I had plans to make a gluten-free cake for the bee’s pot luck tomorrow but by the time it came to shopping I knew I didn’t have enough energy to bake. They will get store-bought cookies, but they are the kind that look like they could be, maybe, homemade!
