Sick day?

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I woke up in the middle of the night feeling very ill. After two attempts to keep a Gravol down I finally gave up and managed to fall asleep. But not before planning what to do about my commitments for today.

I could skip the guild party – no problem there. My Red Cross shift was going to be a little more trouble to deal with. I could call the convenor and let her know I was sick, but then I remembered she was out of town. Okay, I’ll just call the loan cupboard and see if the morning shift person can find a spare. If not, it wouldn’t be the first time we had to shut the door for lack of a worker. Then I remembered one of my quilting friend specifically wanted to know when I’d be working because she needed to come in for a wheelchair for her husband. Okay, I’ll call Kathleen in the morning and tell her she should get there before noon just in case they have to close for the afternoon.

Finally I got to sleep and was still sound asleep when Pat called at 9 AM. I guess some of those Gravol got through after all. After some toast and coffee I was feeling okay so I just carried on with my day without having to do all those work-arounds.

It was busy at the Red Cross and, although I had my book, I didn’t have a chance to read it. The IT guy from the hospital stopped in and the network line is connected into the office. We still have to wait for a router, but at least there is some progress.

I hurried home after my shift to get ready for the guild party. I made a new gluten-free “bread”, some Johnny Cake and Macaroni and Cheese. It is a western-themed
party and we are encouraged to come in costume. No amount of encouragement or promises of prizes will get me any more “western” than my blue jeans!
