Off the beaten track

I slept in a bit so my morning was slow to get started. While I had my coffee I spent my usual hour on my iPad checking mail, blogs and Facebook. Maybe it was because I had extra sleep, or maybe it was just one of those days, but it seemed everything I saw I needed to pin, bookmark or copy. It’s not like I’m looking for ideas, but some days they just seem to be everywhere.

After getting a load of laundry started I headed up to my studio to work on my Mario project. I set it aside before my trip and worried I might have trouble getting back into it but I guess on the third one your mind has the steps memorized. I made a few mis-cuts when I was putting the kit together so I had to dig out the fabric and cut a few more strips. While I was digging out the fabric I thought that a couple of my bins could do with some re-arranging. I needed a larger bin for all the bits and pieces I use for my cards, and a few of the projects I came home from Saskatoon with were able to fit in something smaller. I remember thinking that I needed to empty some bins out (i.e., get the projects done) before I set aside any new project. That resolve didn’t last long!

Rearranging done, and clothes hung out to dry, it was time to make my way to the fabric shop. Who would have guessed that I needed so much more fabric? Lainey was helpful in finding the things I needed, and I had her all to myself until I was ready to cash out. I have fabric for the project from the quilting magazine; I have fabric to finish off the quilt I’ve started for Alex; I have fabric for the project I will start at the bee on Tuesday.

Before I left I asked Pat if we needed anything. He mentioned we needed some paper products so, after I finished at the fabric shop, I stopped at Walmart. While I was there I bought a new bin so I could keep my magazine pattern and fabric all in one spot. I love to be organized, although there are times you wouldn’t believe it if you saw my space.

I was barely in the door before Pat suggested we take the truck out to Lund. We had heard that the fish and chips at the hotel are very good so we thought we’d give them a try. We also took along the GPS so we could do a little back-country exploring. I mentioned over lunch that one of our Guild members lives at Bliss Landing and, although I’ve seen it from the water, I wanted to see it by land. We plugged in the coordinates and set off.

The roads weren’t good to start off, and they got worse the further along we went. We ended up driving beyond Bliss Landing almost all the way to Sarah Point (the starting point for the Sunshine Coast Trail). There were occasions when Pat had to put the truck into 4-wheel drive but everything worked fine. We were glad that we didn’t meet any traffic on the “road”.

After bringing the laundry in I headed up to the studio and finished the Mario top. I’ll spend a bit of time this evening reviewing one of my Craftsy lessons because my mystery projects is up next. What I’m making isn’t a mystery (but it is a secret), but how to make it is what I need to learn!
