Balance

Thursday, May 9, 2013

When I eat a meal, I eat all of one thing before eating something else. For example, if we have pasta and salad I will eat all the pasta and then eat the salad. If it is a meat and vegetable meal, I’ll eat all the meat, then all of one veggie before moving on to the next. Pat comments on it occasionally so I’m aware that I’m doing it.

I’m also ware of how much time I spend doing the same thing (quilting). There are other things I’m involved with, but my main activity is quilting. There’s nothing wrong with that (is there?) but I should have more balance in my life.

So I started my day with a yoga class. I stopped going to the drop-in yoga classes when I took a permanent shift at the Red Cross on Thursdays. There were times when I could have gone back to it, but my hip was bothering me so much I hesitated. I’ve had clearance from the doctor that yoga wouldn’t hurt it but I had neglected to return. While working on a tree pose today I saw clearly how my balance has gotten out of whack!

I walked to the hospital for my shift today – part of wanting to get outside more. When we moved here I expected to walk almost everywhere. On rainy days in winter it isn’t such an appealing thought, and when I was with Margaret driving was essential. I’m trying to get back into the habit of walking wherever possible.

So, keeping in mind that balance theme, I’ll find my book and read for the rest of the afternoon before switching to knitting this evening. Quilting will wait until tomorrow!
