I was all set to make Aunt Gertie’s Corn Chowder today at BOND. It was on the menu for last week but, since I wasn’t available, I assumed the coordinators would be ordering sandwiches. As it turned out one of the leaders made the chowder ahead of time and they served it last week. Fortunately the meal for today was a Stir-Fry with rice so I didn’t need a recipe, although I would have liked to have had a chance to look up some sauces. I purchased a couple of bottles of stir-fry sauce and it worked out well. I have a hankering for corn chowder now though so I may have to make up a batch at home!

I was concerned about the rice because the last time I cooked rice it didn’t turn out very well. I had taken one of my own big pots for cooking potatoes in (had I made the chowder) and it worked well for the rice. I even had someone ask what kind of rice I made because it was so fluffy! Obviously more luck than anything but I’ll take the credit.

For the past few weeks the program has been operating with only one leader while the other took some time off. Marcia may not have know that Connie was coming back today because they had also arranged for a staff member from Family Place to help with the program. She has helped out at our Christmas dinners and she knows how everything works. We had the clean-up done in no time and we were both able to sit and listen to the presentation – Signing with Your Baby! We had two little babies in the crowd today and they both slept through the whole deal. I got a cuddle in with one of the babies between eating lunch and cleaning up – that’s why I do this job!

It is a gorgeous day out and when I got home, as I sat catching up on my e-mail, I opened the patio door for a bit of fresh air. I’ll try to get a couple more cards finished before dinner and then get back to my crocheting. The mittens are done and the slippers are next! I’m anxious to play with a new ball of yarn I bought in Victoria.
