Knotting

I started free-motion quilting on my applique flowers this morning and it is going well. I’m liking the method I chose, but I’ve had a chance to try out one of the ideas my fellow quilter had. It didn’t turn out to be as difficult as I anticipated. If I had done the entire quilt with that method though I’d either have had to be very good at it, or I’d have to be changing the colour of my thread every few stitches. I’m working only on green patches now and when they are done I’ll move along to some of the other colours – orange, burgundy, blue and the other four colours I bought yesterday.

I am loving Ruby’s ability to knot the thread. I wasn’t sure if it would work with the free-motion stitch but was pleased that it does. I’m not entirely happy with the way the knot looks on the back, but for this quilt it will save me days and days of time. I’m not using the cutting function as it cuts the ends too small and I have to fiddle with the thread to get it set for the next sequence of stitching.

We’re off to a Robbie Burns dinner tonight – a week late I know, and in this case I’m not sure “better late than never” really applies!
