They’re everywhere

Pat and I took the first ferry to Comox this morning. Last fall I volunteered to help the Red Cross computerize their inventory, and maybe persuade our volunteers to start using the system for recording equipment loans. The Nanaimo office found a computer for us and we loaded the car with some equipment returns from our depot and I headed out for a training session today. The system is quite straight forward and seems intuitive, although I expect I’ll be calling for help before the process is too far along. When the training was done we loaded the car with the computer and some equipment heading back to Powell River and had time for lunch and some shopping before the afternoon ferry home.

We really couldn’t think of any shopping that we needed to do in the big shops so we headed to the fabric store – not necessarily to buy fabric but to pick up a donated door prize the shop had offered for the quilt show. To be polite I thought we should do a little looking around which, of course, led to some purchases.

I am enrolled in a 10″ square quilt class with the Guild and I’ve been thinking that black and white and a splash of colour was what I wanted. When we walked into the store she had a beautiful curved-line quilt hanging on the wall in the exact colour combination I wanted. As Pat and I pondered what colour went well with the black and white prints we had picked out he kept asking what the pattern looked like. I had to admit I really didn’t know but I thought a light, medium and dark would be appropriate.

The next thing I know the woman who is teaching the class is beside me asking what the heck I’m doing on that side of the pond. She was over for a girls’ weekend to celebrate her birthday. In the space of about ten minutes the shop was full of Timberlane quilters all taking advantage of the 70% off sale on Christmas fabrics before getting down to the serious business of partying!

So, along with the door prize, I came home with six meters of fabric (in a light, medium and dark shade) and several fat quarters at 70% off (which is all I need for the class). And with the money we quilters were spending I think we deserved the bag of goodies we received for the quilt show!
