I woke up before six this morning to near blizzard conditions outside. There wasn’t any snow collecting on the streets, but the wind was so strong it was blowing the snow and rain sideways! I had a couple of errands I wanted to get done but I didn’t want to go out when it was so stormy. At times it looked like it was clearing and then just a few minutes later it would start up again. I finally went out just before lunch but it was still quite nasty.
The ferries weren’t running today. It takes a big storm to keep the Texada ferry docked, but it didn’t make it’s first run today until about 3:30 this afternoon. We haven’t seen the Comox ferry all day, although I checked the website and the last one of the day looks to be sailing.
We watched a tugboat with a load of logs go back and forth in front of the ferry terminal most of the day. I saw it struggling down the inlet before ten, and the next thing I knew it was turning around. We thought it might tie up somewhere but perhaps it was too rough to get in to shore. It just went back and forth, back and forth until about mid-afternoon when the wind died down and it was able to continue on its way.
Other than watching the storm it was a pretty quiet day. I did a bit of knitting on a couple of last-minute gifts and I got to the bottom of the laundry hamper. I made a Shepherd’s Pie for supper. While I was out today I picked up some supplies for a dessert I need to take to my quilting party tomorrow (Burnt Grapes). I also found something for our gift exchange – yes, another year has gone by and that ornament isn’t going to get done.
Pat is out at an open mic night and I think I’m going to take my Christmas music downstairs and play (or at least practice) a few carols.
