Ruby and I started early this morning and by the time Pat was finished his first class we had just about finished quilting my project. I admit I used a pretty simple method (straight lines in the ditch), but we ventured off a little with some metallic thread and a decorative stitch. If all goes well tomorrow morning my piece will be ready for binding.
All that time spent quilting when I should have been getting myself ready for the bee. I packed up my Disappearing 9-Patch so I could sandwich it on the big tables at the Seniors Center. But what else to take along? Everything I had on the go required Ruby’s skills, and she doesn’t travel with me. I ended up taking a couple of door hangers to do the sashing on. I also took batting so I could sandwich them when the sashing was finished – too bad I neglected to think about backing fabric!
When I got started on the Disappearing 9-Patch I realized that I needed to piece my backing. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough fabric but, with the help of a couple more experienced quilters, I was able to make it work. There will be none left to add to my stash though. I’m using a flannel backing – a first for me. Next I had to piece the batting – I was sure I had measured correctly but the piece I cut also needed some adjusting. By the end of the day I had the sandwiching finished and I have another UFO ready for quilting. According to my list that project isn’t due until our Christmas Pot Luck so you could say I’m ahead of schedule.
I worked on the Guild blog until dinner. Tonight we’ll watch a few taped shows and I’ll do some knitting.
