Pat and I finished up our photo book this morning. It was fun to go through the photos, pick out the ones that best represented our week (yes, there are 64 pages in the book for a single week of the trip), and write a few notes to go along with the pictures.
Pat was going out to a movie this afternoon, and I intended to tackle those last four appliqué blocks. But first I needed to call the woman up the street about some hand quilting thread. Deborah runs a small shop/studio out of her home. She works full time though so she isn’t easy to catch at home. When I called after lunch she suggested I come on over.
Once the thread was bought and packed in my suitcase, I was back to my appliqué blocks. I got everything set out for the first block and realized I was out of spray starch (an essential ingredient for keeping these things together). I knew I was low, but my extra can has already arrived in Saskatoon for my week of quilting with Stacia and Deloise.
I researched how to make starch (and there are a number of recipes out there) but in the end I braved the cold wind and threatening skies and walked to Safeway. When I got home, and after I warmed up with a cup of coffee, I headed back to my studio.
I took the lid off the starch and, much to my dismay (and to a chorus of not-so-nice words), I noticed the pressure cap was missing off the top of the can. I wasn’t about to walk back to the store so I gave up on the appliqué blocks for the day. Although I didn’t need a nap, I was so frustrated that I lay down and read my book until Pat arrived home.
I now have a new (and working) can of spray starch but I will wait another day to get back to those blocks.
