Fall Fair

I was determined to get my Community Quilt finished today. I had decided to do a bit of extra quilting in the border when my “old” machine broke. I had done a bit of free-motion quilting on Ruby, but today’s challenge was to see how she worked on a big quilt. I had a problem with the thread, but I think it was a bad spool. When I look at it the thread it is all wavy, and all my other threads seem to be smooth and tight. I broke the thread a couple of times before switching it out for another spool (luckily I had two in the same colour) and things went well.

When I went to press out my quilting lines, not all the markings from the Frixion pen came out. In a couple of spots I was left with some white lines showing. I did some research on the ‘net and saw that someone had the same problem but washing the quilt removed the lines. I was so afraid the colors would run or the quilt would fall apart if it was washed, but I really had no choice. I threw it in the washer and then the drier and it came out in one piece, and all the colours appear to be intact. I am still seeing some white lines though. I’ll give it a good press tomorrow and see how badly they show.

We didn’t go to the Fall Fair yesterday because for most of the day it was cloudy and looked like it could rain. We were totally fogged in this morning, but by just past noon it had the possibility of burning off. We went up the hill to the Fall Fair and it was a beautiful day up there.

I think there were more exhibits this year than last, and they certainly had a good turn-out today. We wandered through the barn and saw chickens, rabbits, turkeys, ducks, pigs, sheep, goats and even one cow.

From there we meandered through the exhibit hall. Every year our Guild decorates the hall with quilts, and there were some lovely ones hung this year. One of our members won a first-place ribbon – the quilt she won for is the feature of one of the upcoming classes I’m going to be taking.

My knitting is moving along and I think, with a little luck and some knitting time, I will be ready for class.
