What a great day

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

I just love Tuesdays – it’s like a one-day retreat! I was busy taking membership renewals today so my time was somewhat interrupted, but I had several small tasks to do so I was prepared for that.

I have four things ready to quilt and my mind is busy thinking about how they can be done using a straight-line pattern. The smallest item is a gift for Alex, I have two door hangars as donations for the senior’s care home, and my community quilt is ready.

I had some help on the door hangars. Do you remember the Blocks of the Month I’ve been doing as an on-line tutorial? I wanted to use the 12-inch blocks I’m making as a start for the hangar project but I wasn’t sure how I would do it. When I was asking at the Guild today one of the ladies came up with an excellent (and easy) plan. If I put two of the blocks together with a sashing between the blocks and a border around the edges they are a good size. My next issue was, because the blocks are such a mish-mash of colours, what blocks would go together well and what border and sashing colour would work. Again another member came to my rescue and I had two of the hangars done by the end of the day.

It feels a bit like our Guild season has already started. The Tuesday group are planning to do a Block of the Month every third Tuesday. We’ve already got the supply list for our September block, and we are going to have a pot luck lunch that day. The pot luck is in honour of a “special guest”, but nobody is saying who that special guest is!

I spent some time this evening sandwiching the hangars  so I’ll think positive thoughts tonight and perhaps the quilting tomorrow will go well.
