Feels like moving day

I had an extra shift at the Red Cross this morning and I suggested a project that Pat could manage while I was away. We had to order our new mattress today to get the free delivery bonus. Because of the way our bed frame is built we are going to put a sheet of wood under the mattress so we had to see about getting that. We needed to call Claude, our handyman, to see if he could help us. We also needed to get Bob, our mover, to move the treadmill downstairs, get rid of the old bed frame in the room upstairs, and move the box spring and mattress from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs bedroom. By the time I got home Pat had done everything he could and had left messages for the ones he couldn’t reach.

I thought I might be swamped on my shift this morning, but I only had one return and one client picking up equipment. When I arrived for my shift at ten there was already a pile of returns in the hallway. I’m not sure if it came in over the weekend or if it arrived earlier this morning. It took over an hour to get it all washed and sorted out.

I spent the afternoon free-motion quilting. I have discovered that if I am quilting around a traced template I don’t have nearly as many problems as I do when I try to just randomly quilt. That being said, I still broke two needles and bent a couple more (one more stitch and they too would have broken).

I see the logic in what I’m doing wrong. I need to be moving the fabric at the point when the needle is in the upper position. If I get going too fast I think I am trying to move the material when the needle is still in the down position. I don’t always have my rhythm right so there are times when I get ahead of myself (or is it that I lag behind). I still need to work on my stitch length but, at least for today, I’m feeling less frustrated.

After supper we had to get ready for the mover who is coming around noon tomorrow. We moved four bookcases (and their books) from the hall downstairs to the upstairs. I deflated the blow up bed and took the blankets out of the bedroom downstairs. I cleared out all the shelves and surfaces of the bed frame in the spare room upstairs, as well as the taking off all of the blankets. We had to move a dresser and pull up a couple of rugs (and find new spots for them), but Pat thinks everything will fit where we want it to.

I sure hope so because I don’t want to have to move anything for a long time!
