I spent more time on laundry today. I can only get a couple of loads on my clothes line at one time so, if I don’t want to run the drier (and I don’t), I have to spread the job out over a couple of days. I had a couple of light bulbs that needed to be changed and I always like to wash the light fixtures when I’m doing that. Before I knew it I was headed out the door for my shift at the Red Cross.
It wasn’t a very busy day, but there were people coming and going the whole time. The morning volunteer was really busy and backed up on washing. I said I would take over and she could leave but she insisted on staying until it was finished. She wasn’t the regular volunteer – the regular person always leaves it for me even when I don’t offer to do it! The repair guy popped in today to fix a few items and, since we’d had a few donations that needed to be inventoried, the convenor was in taking care of that job. Since it was the end of the month the Treasurer was in to pick up the cash donations.
Margaret had some silver dollars that she wanted to convert to cash. Apparently there are two places in town that do it – the pawn shop and another location that she doesn’t seem to remember the name of. She had called ahead to see what she would get for them. The pawn shop said they would weigh them and then give her a price. The other place said they would have to make a call when they saw them and give her a price at that time.
Margaret had concerns about the pawn shop when I talked to her earlier in the week – “how do I know if they are weighing them properly and telling me the right weight”. By today she had decided to go to the pawn shop with half of her coins.
It turned out that the coins she had were fifty cent pieces, not silver dollars. He weighed them, made a phone call and made an offer. She accepted the offer but once we were in the car she said she thought she would have done better at the other place! So I guess we’ll go to the other place with the other half of her coins – of whatever denomination they are. For some reason (and I didn’t get into why) she wanted this conversion done before her nieces arrive next week.
We have just finished watching the men’s gymnastics on Day 5 of the Olympics, but I think in real time they are on at least Day 6 and maybe Day 7. Oh well, we are enjoying live, commercial-free coverage. I love the PVR.
