It’s a good thing it’s not a real job

I had a bit of time in my studio this morning and decided to look through my card-making book to see if I could come up with some new ideas for my birthday cards. I tried out one new pattern, and then made it again and got the perspective a little better by changing some of the measurements.

I told Margaret I’d pick her up for our Red Cross shift about five minutes earlier than usual. Margaret’s walking is really slowing down and, since we both had cards to drop in the mail before our shift, I thought we’d better have some extra time. She was so busy chatting when she got in the car that I think we used up our five extra minutes getting her seat belt done up!

I knew we would be tight for time, but I still planned to get the mail drop done before heading to the hospital. Then Margaret said that “since we had some extra time” she wanted to go to Sears and get rid of one of her Sears cards. Of course that meant the sales clerk had to phone to find out which card was current, and Margaret had to confirm all the information.

I stopped at the post office, but we were ten minutes late for our shift. It was busy today, but more rentals than returns so that is easier. Margaret decided she could help with the cleaning of a pair of crutches so, while I was cleaning a wheelchair, I also had to keep an eye on her and her walker to be sure she didn’t topple over.

I headed back to the studio when I got home and made a couple more cards. I had to modify the book pattern a bit but the results are okay. The patterns in the book are meant for paper so when I use fabric they sometimes don’t translate well. The cards are fun to do when I don’t have a lot of time.

After dinner I did a bit of cross stitch. If my camera was handy I’d show you my progress – maybe tomorrow when I move my stuff back to the studio. Pat is home tomorrow so I’ll need to tidy up a bit!

I hope I can stay awake long enough to finish my book.
