I read on a blog post this morning that, because it was Friday the 13th, the author was going to sit in her chair and knit to avoid any disasters. A Brown Recluse and a Black Widow spider recently bit her within a couple of days of one another – I could understand her thinking. It seemed like a good idea, so I decided that once my chores were done I’d do the same thing.
When we moved, one of the few things we regretted not bringing with us was one of our sets of patio furniture. We had a high table (about bar height) and four high chairs in the set. We have a table on the upper deck but, because of the frosted glass and the height of the tables and chairs, we were missing our view. Pat found a set at Canadian Tire that seemed a good replacement for the set we left behind.
The knitting was abandoned and we picked up the table and two chairs and expected to spend most of the day putting them together. Not so. I had the chairs assembled by the time Pat had all but one piece of the table put together. We had lunch on the deck and the set is just perfect – we can sit at the table and see out over the top of the railing to the ocean below.
After lunch I decided to retire to the hammock for a good long read. I could have stayed there all afternoon, but we wanted to try out Starbuck’s free Refresher drinks. As we were leaving Starbuck’s Pat asked where I wanted to go next. Normally I would say home, but today I suggested Emmonds Beach. I’ve heard Margaret talking about it but we’ve never been there so today seemed like a good time. All we knew was that it was somewhere between Powell River and Lund.
It took longer than I expected, but it was a beautiful view when we finally arrived. The beach is very rocky, but it was lovely to sit on a log and listen to the waves hitting the beach. When we had enough of that we headed further down the road to the Provincial Recreation area called Dinner Rock. We’d passed the sign for it many times but had never turned in. Again it was a rocky beach, but it had a completely different view of Savary Island than we had seen before. Neither of us had our camera or our phones (for a photo) so we’ll have to go back another day.
On the way home we stopped at the Shinglemill and got a table on the deck. There was a steady stream of boats heading up Powell Lake and when we left, the trucks were lined up for the boat launch.
I’m afraid if I go back out to the hammock with my book I will fall asleep so I think I’ll retreat to the back deck. In case you are wondering, I did manage a couple of rows on my knitting project!
