I think I’m back to normal

I was up early again this morning and since the weather looked good for today (and not so great for the rest of the weekend) I decided I’d work in the yard for a bit. Pat trimmed the rose bush and dug out the flowerbeds while I cleaned up in the back. We are far from done, but at least we have made a start.

Once we’d had coffee I headed up to my studio to see if I still knew how to operate my sewing machine. I knew that my challenge project was due at the wind-up next week, but an e-mail from the Guild reminded us that the Cookie Tin Exchange project was also due.

I finished up my challenge project (hand stitching, label, and sleeve) before the afternoon was over. Then I decided I would take a look at what I might do with my cookie tin blocks. I had a plan in mind, but it didn’t take me long to realize the plan wasn’t going to work. What to do now?

There are seven blocks and they are in a range of sizes – two of them aren’t even squares. I put them up on my design wall a number of times before I had them arranged in a way I liked. Next I had to find some fabrics that I could use as strips to place between the blocks so I could get three columns of equal length. You’re probably thinking seven blocks and three rows – the math doesn’t work. Well I made the math work!

I have one of the columns finished and I’m happy with the results, but I thought I’d best leave it before I made a mistake I couldn’t recover from. I may not get the piece quilted before Thursday, but I should be able to have a flimsy to show.
